Technical Flats are drawings that shows a garment as if it were laid flat to display all seams, topstitching, hardware, and any other design details. In AT 375, a class called Computer Tech for Merchandising, is where we were taught how to draw one side of different articles of clothing in Adobe Illustrator then reflect them to have them perfectly mirror the other side. Then prior to learning how to draw flats in Illustrator, we learned how to hand draw them. This took place in AT 340, a class called Apparel and Textile Aesthetics, we were taught how to align sleeves, create different buttons, and the many stitching options per garment that was then traced onto final paper by taping the scratch paper to a window or light table.
